What Is Pepcid Complete?


The Pepcid Complete chewable tablets contains the generic medicine Famotidine, combined with two antacids (calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide) which is marketed and sold by Johnson & Johnson-Merck Consumer Pharmaceuticals Co. The drug doesn't require any prescription and available in chewable tablets forms in various flavors such as pineapple, mint and strawberry.



Mechanism Of Action 


Pepcid Complete contains combination of famotidine and antacids (calcium carbonate and magnesium hydroxide) provide fast and effective relief from heart burn in those individuals whose symptoms not controlled by famotidine alone because of it's dual action.

 Contraindications. 


Do not take this medication if you are allergic to famotidine or other stomach acid reducers (such as ranitidine, cimetidine, Zantac, or Tagamet).

Do not take this medication if you have difficulty swallowing, vomiting in blood, or have bloody stools.

Pepcid Complete contains phenylalanine so the patient with Phenylketonuria should tell their doctor or pharmacists about it.

Once or twice a day atleast an hour before your meal.

Pregnancy 

 Famotidine has no negative effects on the developing foetus. However, it is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless a doctor prescribes it.

Lactation 

There is no evidence that taking Famotidine while breastfeeding is harmful to your breastfed infants, but it is advised to be on the safer side nursing mothers should either discontinue PEPCID COMPLETE or stop nursing.

Antifungal; Itraconazole 

When famotidine and magnesium hydroxide-containing antacids are taken with the antifungal agents such as Itraconazole, the antifungal efficacy may be reduced.  

Tetracycline hydrochloride; doxycycline

 Products containing magnesium hydroxide may interfere with the absorption of some orally administered antibiotics in the class Tetracyclines. As a result, the antibiotics become ineffective.

Ciprofloxacin 

Antacids containing calcium or magnesium may decrease bioavailability of ciprofloxacin so should not be taken together.

Penicillamine 

Antacids containing magnesium may reduce penicillamine bioavailability. 

 Zinc sulfate

When zinc sulfate is administered with calcium-containing antacids it may reduce bioavailability of zinc.
