In this post, we will look at Cimet, an antiulcer medicine that contains Cimetidine, a histamine H2 receptor blocker. The use of cimetidine has decreased in recent years due to the development of longer-acting h2 receptor blockers like ranitidine or famotidine, which have lower side effects and interactions. However, some doctors still prescribe cimetidine.
Information about uses, dosages, contraindications, indications during pregnancy and lactation, and alternatives is listed in the appropriate sections of the article.
What Is Cimet 400mg?
Cimet is an antiulcer drug available in tablet (200mg and 400mg) and suspension (100mg/5ml) forms. It contains a cimetidine H2 receptor antagonist, which competes with histamine to block H2 receptors.
Cimet is manufactured and sold by Ferozesons Pharmaceuticals in Pakistan.
Mechanism Of Action
Cimetidine in Cimet tablets inhibits the action of histamine by binding to an H2 receptor on the basolateral surface of stomach parietal cells. This results in decreased acid production.
